49ers Waive Jarryd Hayne, Hope To Re-Sign Him To Practice Squad

Nov 1, 2015 10:12 AM

The San Francisco 49ers have waived Jarryd Hayne in order to promote Kendall Gaskins to their 53-man roster.

Carlos Hyde has been ruled out with a stress fracture in his left foot.

Reggie Bush, rookie Mike Davis and Gaskins are the only healthy running backs who remain with the 49ers.

San Francisco hopes Hayne clears waivers and they can re-sign him to their practice squad on Monday.

Lions View Themselves As Buyers, Not Sellers At Deadline

Oct 31, 2015 3:15 PM

The Detroit Lions aren't looking to sell off any players at the trade deadline.

"We’re going to be probably more buyers than sellers, and we’ve had some dialogue already about some guys around the league," Martin Mayhew said via the Detroit Free Press. "So we’re actively looking at those situations."

The Lions won't look to trade Calvin Johnson or Matthew Stafford.

Mayhew called any thoughts of moving on from Stafford "comical," according to the team’s website and said that if he had "22 Matthew Staffords, we’d win a championship every year."

Martin Mayhew: I'm The Lions' GM Right Now

Oct 30, 2015 10:37 AM

Martin Mayhew has been general manager of the Detroit Lions for seven seasons and he's under scrutiny with the team off to a 1-6 start.

“I’m the GM right now and we’re going to play Kansas City,” Mayhew told reporters in England. “And I’m going to keep working until somebody tells me to stop.”

Mayhew said he doesn’t review his performance or status with the team’s ownership group on a weekly basis, but he knows they are disappointed and that the Ford family is very “passionate.”

The Dallas Cowboys are interested in signing Greg Hardy to a long-term extension.

Jerry Jones' comments came a day after Stephen, the Cowboys executive vice president, told the same station the team would "absolutely" like to get a deal done and believed it was "very much a possibility."

Hardy and Dez Bryant had a verbal altercation in Week 7.

Hardy was signed by the Cowboys this past offseason following his suspension for domestic violence.

Jason Pierre-Paul Agrees To Deal With Giants

Oct 28, 2015 7:43 PM

Jason Pierre-Paul and the New York Giants have reached agreement on a deal for the remainder of the season.

Pierre-Paul will return in either Week 10 or Week 12 as he works his way back from a fireworks accident where he severely damaged his hand.

Pierre-Paul's deal is heavy on incentives tied to how much of the remainder of this season he's able to play.

The Giants designated Pierre-Paul their franchise player in March, which meant he would have had to play on a one-year, $14.813 million deal or not play at all. New York wasn't interested in bringing him back on the franchise price.

Pierre-Paul will be able to rehab, work out and practice at the Giants' team facility starting Wednesday.

Texans Considered Cutting Ryan Mallett

Oct 27, 2015 10:52 AM

The Houston Texans considered cutting Ryan Mallett after he missed the team's flight to face the Miami Dolphins.

Bill O'Brien said Monday afternoon that he and Texans general manager Rick Smith were discussing options for how to handle Mallett's situation. O'Brien has control of the Texans 53-man roster, but on big decisions, the Texans seek a consensus.

The Texans don't have another healthy quarterback on the roster beyond Brian Hoyer.

Mallett, who blamed his tardiness on traffic, was late for meetings Saturday, then missed the team's charter flight to South Florida. It was the second known time Mallett was late for a team activity.

The Texans signed Hoyer this offseason to compete with Mallett for the starting quarterback job. Hoyer initially won the competition, then was benched in the fourth quarter of the Texans' season opener.

Hoyer regained his starting job in Week 6.

The Colts are 3-4 and have hardly looked like a contender one year after reaching the AFC Championship Game.

Jim Irsay could elect to fire both Pagano and general manager Ryan Grigson at the same time.

Tom Brady On Playing 10 More Year: What Else Am I Going To Do

Oct 26, 2015 1:25 PM

Tom Brady repeated his goal of playing for another 10 years, telling WEEI on Monday "What else am I going to do?"

Brady also thinks he's better now than he was five years ago.

“I think so,” Brady said. “I don’t know. I try to be critical of myself. I think I’m making all the throws I need to make. There can always be things I can do better. I’ve worked hard always on my throwing mechanics. I worked hard this offseason on them. Playing quarterback is throwing the ball accurately, being able to make the throws, being durable and making good decisions. I try to take care of the good decision part, I try to take care of the accurate part, I try to take care of the durability part. Then it comes down to leadership and relating to your teammates and all those things that are different challenges that you face as you get older.”
